Missions Trip to Romania 2010
With its stolid yet nostalgic block houses, gently rolling hills, snow capped mountains, busy cities, and clusters of culture, Romania rests in the heartland of Europe; and it was to just such a location that students and staff from Verity Institute set out from an overcast Indianapolis on the tenth of March 2010. Though the world offers us those who are in need on every continent, God called the Verity Institute Class of 2010 to central Europe to encourage and to be encouraged, to serve and to be served, to pray and to be prayed for, to speak and to be spoken to, with those in need in Romania. The Copu family organized our tour and the various projects we would undertake while in the eastern hemisphere. The children's programs and the character development activities conducted were profitable tools in the hand's of God and the Basic Seminar was also used to present the truth of the Word of God to the citizens of Romania.
While the adults attended the Basic Seminar, the orphaned children, with which we spent the majority of our time, were pictures of simplicity and love. Though these children had very little, they loved with all of their heart. So little was needed to change the countenance of a child from defiance to peaceful repose. A simple hug assured the small hearts that they were indeed loved, and for them that was enough. We could not speak in their tongue, but the heart speaks with only one language, love, and so it was that we spoke the gospel of the Lord Jesus into these precious lives.
From the perspective on this side of eternity, it is difficult to tell who was more moved by the trip to central Europe, the children or the mission group that loved the children with near tireless endearment. Whatever the case may be, one might venture to say, “the group from Verity had their lives impacted by those whose lives we had originally endeavored to change.”
